Trusty Thursday

Early morning, with a croissant Céline in hand, I welcomed a talented photographer and reporter from the French part of Switzerland in Zurich. We directly headed up to LAAX, where we arrived only 1.5 hours later. The media team of LAAX OPEN was already expecting us and gave us all the needed goods before we rushed to the gondola, taking us up to the Crap Sogn Gion.

Everyone was relaxed, enjoying the show, which is unique as these events are dependent on the weather, which seemingly rarely ever collaborates. But this week: Sunshine!

Snapping some pictures here and there … Running around with my camera, as I usually do. I’m used to be the mockery of other photographers who are wondering what this blondie slipping down the pipe is trying to do. Well, out of hundreds of pics, a few turned out pretty ok I would say 😉

https://musiciselementary.com/2024/03/07/rm5syl021dd Later we observed the contest, lulled by the voice of Henry Jackson, which made us initiate our own little contest: track how many times Henry says “… in the world”. He kept flattering every trick and athlete with “This is the most impressive run I’ve seen in the world!” or “He has the best moustache in the world”… Turned out to be very entertaining.

The definition of classy: vast flats, each of them containing a private steam room! Yes, a freaking Spa in the apartment!!! … that we actually never got to use, as our schedule was hectic.

https://worthcompare.com/6i61ssc1k75 Just a few minutes later, we headed back up the Crap with the gondola to the co-working space called The Bridge located inside the Galaaxy. The media apero was the perfect time to catch up with all the other media buddies.

Freaky Friday

Jumped out of bed, rushing to get my hands on a Chai latte and a croissant before heading up to see the slopestyle finals. I was very excited to get to shoot the sick course that the LAAX shapers had built this year. As soon as we arrived, I had a strategy planned: start on top and work my way down to the last features. What a show! That day, the forecast was announcing clouds which luckily didn’t appear until later that day, giving a clear view of the whole slope.

Once the contest was over, it was chicken nuggets time. I make a scene every year, as I think that 4 littles chicken nuggets are not worth that much money… you agree? We then headed to Flims for me to buy underwear… yes, I forgot them! Imagine this: a snowboarder entering a fancy lingerie shop with her snowboard in hand, walking out a few minutes later disappointed because one single g-string cost 40 CHF!! I finally called my roommate, who drove all the way from Zurich to LAAX that day to bring me some fresh panties.

Then our truly favorite part of the day came: stalking the neighbors. From our Rocks flat, we could see directly into our media peers’ room. That show went on until we joined the media dinner at Casa Veglia with much wine and fondue – heavy, but necessary to have the full Switzerland experience for all those foreign media partners. Then Reto Gurtner gave a speech, where he smartly stated the importance of the influence media has on communicating the right path – the green path. His dedicated beliefs made LAAX become the eco-friendliest resorts in the world, and the plan is to encourage others to do the same – to lead the change!

His inspiring speech led to some pretty interesting conversations while we were drinking some more and before heading to the club.

Sunny Saturday

https://giannifava.org/i292txx The weather forecast announced some pretty shitty weather. Turned out to be wrong again, as we were left with sunshine and fluffy clouds in the valley, giving a beautiful and mystic vibe. This was the perfect moment to take out the phone and make those stories and selfies – so we did, heavily! We were happy that the weather was collaborating for that last day of competition. That day a special kind of competition took place on the slopestyle course where a team of three riders consisting of a woman, a snowboarder, and a skier would ride together and perform some fun tricks. An exciting and refreshing moment, with many people coming together for the sake of riding.

Mellow techno sound in a place filled with plants and a massive wall made out of glass to let in the sunshine. We hung in there for way too long before the main contest of the day started: the half-pipe finals which was happening at sundown.

My stalking skills had reached a whole new, professional level when I took out my 800mm lens to check on the neighbours’ email feed, which I believe would be considered highly illegal if it would have been a creepy man behind the camera! But I think I was kinda cute 😉
