Finally, in paradise

https://www.mominleggings.com/wzgl09s “How hard can it be to get out of here?” – I complained while my friend Stephy was taking off from the Swiss land on a plane to Sri Lanka. The past three days were a hustle, and this didn’t seem to end. Damn it!
It was Saturday afternoon, I was stuck at Zurich airport after missing my flight by a few minutes. And NO, I wasn’t late (which would have been a fair assumption), not this time! One day earlier, while going through the online checking, we realised that my Passport would expire in only 5 months and therefore, wouldn’t be accepted to fly to Sri Lanka. “My Passport is still available when I get home from Sri Lanka, what’s the problem?” – me trying to shift an entire national system. Anyways, I had to run to the passport office to get myself a temporary Passport that would allow me to travel internationally. Finally, arriving at the airport, the friendly hostess told me that I would have to rebook my flight to the next day because temporary Passports would need a visa BEFORE the take-off and not only on arrival. Apparently, that visa would take up to 24H to get, so no chance to get on this flight. Quickly, I applied for the visa and went into the airport bathroom to cry. By the time my mum calmed me down, I had realised that my visa already got accepted and ran out to the counters, which I understood, closed 5 minutes earlier … There was no way to get on that plane, which was still on Swiss ground.

https://fotballsonen.com/2024/03/07/cj6s0wd7svl Shit happens, I rebooked my flight to the day after and went back home to eat one of the best cordon-bleu of my life.

https://www.lcclub.co.uk/1h823meh The day after, I finally took my flight alone, and arrived in Sri Lanka, safe and sound. First things first, when reunited. Stephy and I ordered a fancy cocktail. The sun, the beach, the drinks… “Paradise, here we are, and here we stay!” – at this point, I wouldn’t get the irony of this thought.

Life in paradise

Since day one, we surfed every day! For the first part of the week, we joined tuk-tuk rides all the way to Weligama to catch some small cute waves. Even if the drive was pretty long, it never felt boring. We were talking and relaxing on the back of that tiny car and gazed at the new landscapes.

Weligama was beautiful, and we felt comfortable. People are friendly and helpful. Lahiru, our local surf guide who became our friend (I mean, we paid him to be our friend), was our go-to guy. Whatever we needed, he would provide it to us, without complaints. A man that every woman deserves 😉
The food by the ocean was priceless. We could choose our fish directly from the fisherman who would grill them for us and serve it with some simple, tasteful rice.

From Weligama, we visited new places and surf-spots, that were recommended to us, every single day. We arrived there with no expectations and allowed local people and friends from Instagram to take us on new adventures.

https://www.goedkoopvliegen.nl/uncategorized/d0wayz21 Going up east from Weligama, we visited Mirissa and its’ famous coconut tree hill where we got in line to shoot some future Instagram portraits. As ridiculous as this situation was, the landscape was breath-taking, and we spent our time well by cuddling some puppies who were chilling under the palm trees.

Tramadol Online Uk On Wednesday we decided that maybe we should try surfing some new location that had been suggested to us by many of you: Hiriketiya. We fell in love! Hiri is a small bay with a mellow middle wave, perfect for beginners and longboarders, and a bigger left that was pretty long and powerful if you could catch it from the peak all the way on the edge of the bay.
The waves were mellow and fun to surf. The lack of power was challenging for me with the shortboard and princess-like paddling. Yes, I still sometimes need that push into the wave for me to catch it! In my defence, I’ve been surfing in the ocean only for one year! 🙂

Rushing away from paradise

Hiriketiya treated us well. Every morning we would meet our surf guide and spend a few hours in the water before catching a breakfast or dinner on the rocky sidehills with view on the ocean. We were grateful for what we had and happy to be there. Until friends and family started informing us with news about the Coronavirus. Just a few days before, when we left our home country, Corona was the least of our issues, and here we were pressured to rethink our whole vacation… Hell no!!! It was way too hard and expensive (with all the Passport and rebooking) to get here, I was here to enjoy my last days without overthinking the situation back home.

My motivation crashed the day after when I realised that getting back to Switzerland would be a challenge as more and more flights were canceled and borders were closing. We then rebooked our flight to the next day, which was Sunday. It was essential for us to go into quarantine close (or not too close) to our family and friends.

Things escalated so quickly. By the time that we came home, people were working from their houses, schools and shops closed down, and people were encouraged to stay inside and avoid social contacts.
